This morning the doctors took out the CPAP leaving James to breath on his own. We weren't sure if he'd be able to handle it first time around, but he took it in his stride, only waking up for a few minutes while the tape was taken off and then the tube removed before drifting straight back to sleep.

Sleep was pretty much the pattern for the day. Without the discomfort of the tube in his nose, James was able to catch up on a bit of rest before having some cuddles with Mum again this afternoon.

The weaning off some of the drugs is progressing well and heart function has picked up a little more over the last couple of days.

Given all this the doctors decided today that there isn't much more that ICU is going to be able to do for him so they are hoping to transfer him back up to the ward sometime soon (possibly tomorrow).
