When is good enough not good enough.

Sucks when things are good, but not good enough, and you dont think they're going to get 'good enough'. So even though things are good, you end them.

Either that, or you've screwed up your best chance of happiness, ever.

I dont know whether is for the best or not, but hopefully it all comes out for the best. Oh, for the ability to see the future. Please?

Sucks to be me. Sad

Yes. I am slightly pished.

Got emailed this the other day - rather amusing...

Finished reading Confessions of an Economic Hit Man a while back, and I've been meaning to write about it since then.

It tells the story of John Perkins, who was hired as an economist by one of the big US construction companies, and his job was to go into third world countries, convince the people in power to accept aid from the world bank, which would go directly to US companies to 'modernise' the country.

This 'convincing' was often underhanded and usually involved convincing them that they personally would end up much better off, and the country would end up okay as well.

However, in every country he went to which agreed to the aid, poverty levels rose substantially after these projects that were supposed to solve the poverty, and the aid usually came with big strings attached.

In almost every case, the country receiving the aid wouldn't be able to repay the debt (and he knew it), and meant the country would end up being dictated to by the US about how to run the country, effectively making the country a 'trusteeship'.

The book pretty much tells the inside story on the American empire - not run by governments though, run by corporate, and more to the point, corporate greed.

It really explains why the Americans are so hated in the middle east, why so many countries are still struggling with debt and poverty. It really makes you think about how much power the American corporates do have, and how much better this place could be.

There's been a lot of mud flung at the author and this book - by the US government, by the NSA, and a whole lot of people - but just the kind of response you'd expect if it was true. Though, it may be fiction, may not be, but its definitely worth a read.

Finished up at UBS last week, after a four month stint there. Was quite a good place to work, though getting to know the team was hard work though. 'Bout half the work was interesting and enjoyable, but the other half ranged from passable to downright mind-numbingly boring.

But, the project I was on finished up (well, the budget did at least), so that was me out of there. There was talk of getting an extension (one department (in Sydney!) really liked me and how much i was helping them out, so they were trying to see if they could 'sponsor' me to continue working on their stuff), but it would've been more of the boring stuff, rather than the interesting stuff, so I politely declined...

Learnt some good stuff there, but the important bit was getting my foot in the door of an investment bank - once in, it opens a whole lot more doors for more contracts, so looking good. And, really, the money wasn't bad either :)

But, I'm still working for the consulting company that I worked through - up until Thursday at least. Doing some pretty boring stuff that's really not motivating me. But, hey, they're paying me for it... :)

The best thing is on Saturday morning, I head off to that place that's full of sand and pointy things and the giant *** cat (aka Egypt). Definitely looking forward to the time off, and the travel. We (Paul, Lyds, Hannah and me) are doing a tour there - we couldn't be bothered with the hassle of organising things ourselves. Means we get a decent guide as well who can tell us cool and (hopefully) interesting things about what we're looking at. Also includes 4 days in Dahab, so we get a good relax as well, and some diving as well. Definitely looking forward to it - I think the cameras are definitely going to get a workout! Also good to catch up with Paul and Lyds - been a while since I've seen them (well, excluding the last 2 days where they crashed in my lounge...).

After the holiday, its back to look for a new contract. Not that I want to, but things like that making things like eating and living easier. Hopefully I'll find one that scores higher on the interestingness scale. Fingers crossed at least.

Anyway, that's probably enough for now - I'm gonna try and blog a bit more, but, really, no promises... Just depends what state of mind I'm in (yeah, yeah, that's enough from the peanut gallery!). I've got at least one more post on the tip of my tongue (fingers?), so I might get that out next...

Even though I promised to try not to kill it, i did. I did try to keep it alive, I watered it and everything!

But, here is the end result:

Boo. Maybe I dont have green fingers after all*. Maybe living in a 6th floor apartment with no balcony isn't so good for plants.

Binned :(

* If you had green fingers, wouldn't it be a good time to get down to the doctors?
